SUMMER READING

A proven method by which to continue education is to READ over the summer months. Reading to, with, or independently 5-10 books over the summer shows similar gains as if the scholar was enrolled in summer school! Aware of this correlation, the Jackson Public Schools District promotes the Summer Reading Program for all JPSD students. All students are required to read one book from the requisite list plus two others. This minimal requirement earns the scholar Bronze Reader status. See the chart below for all conditions.
Reader Level | Elementary Requirements (PK-5) |
Bronze | Required title+2 books (3 logs) |
Silver | Required title+8 books (9 logs) |
Gold | Required title+19 books (20 logs) |
The required reading titles and additional reading logs can be found on the JPS Summer Reading webpage.
Please, support the local libraries and join their summer reading programs. This year's theme is "COLOR Our World" and there is Early Literacy to Adult programming.

Quote of the day
The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.” – Albert Ellis
