It's time to get our boots on the ground and begin our SUMMER READING! Reading to, with, or independently 5-10 books over the summer shows similar gains as if the scholar was enrolled in summer school! Aware of this correlation, the Jackson Public Schools District promotes the Summer Reading Program for all JPSD students. All students are required to read one book from the requisite list plus two others. This minimal requirement earns the scholar Bronze Reader status. See the chart below for all conditions.
Reader Level | Elementary Requirements (PK-5) |
Bronze | Required title+2 books (3 logs) |
Silver | Required title+8 books (9 logs) |
Gold | Required title+19 books (20 logs) |
The required reading titles and additional reading logs can be found on the JPS Summer Reading webpage.
Please, support the local libraries and join their summer reading programs. This year's theme is "COLOR Our World" and there is Early Literacy to Adult programming.

When opossums are playing 'possum, they are not "playing." They actually pass out from sheer terror.
Quote of the day
“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.” – Life’s Little Instruction Book, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
